WELCOME TO SPAIN NOW! 2011

Spain NOW! , the annual season of contemporary Spanish culture in London will take place over 6 weeks from 14th October. Now in its 3rd year, Spain NOW! will bring to London a snapshot of the latest creative output of Spain, featuring a series of concerts, roundtables, exhibitions and performances across London.
A very special pre-opening live action performance by street artist SUSO33 will take place between 2-7pm on 13th October outside Ibérica at 195 Great Portland Street in Marylebone to coincide with the first day of the Frieze Art Fair.

The official launch will take place the following day 14th October at the Halcyon gallery in Mayfair, as part of a very special cultural diplomacy project of the off-Frieze programme, which will showcase the work of exciting Spanish painter Pedro Paricio (described as “one of the best, and freshest emerging artists to come out of Spain”) and a live multimedia performance by Suso33 (winner of the National Videoart award at PHotoEspaña 2010).

But that is only the start. Spain NOW! will again take place all around London with a variety of exhibitions, events and performances, from DJ sessions to roundtables. Some of the venues this year include Ibérica Marylebone, the Leicester Square Theatre, the Cockpit Theatre or the versatile Spain NOW! pop-up space at the Gallery Soho. Art, music, architecture, dance, literature, photography or cuisine will be present, reflecting what’s best (and what’s next) in the artistic output of the Spanish art scene this year.

From photographer Juan Pérez Fajardo portraiting the Madrid music scene to Sr. Chinarro, unique indie personality halfway between surrealism and “costumbrism”; Nacho Manzano, one of the most talked-about chefs revisiting traditional cuisine from Asturias; Pablo Padilla, architect, sound artist and composer; or dancer/choreographer Elena Córdoba, who will present her trilogy “Poetic Anatomy”, the result of years of exploration, which turns the human body into a poetic work.
