CorunaRocks Presents Jane Joyd+The Primitives
The Primitives + Jane Joyd
Leicester Square Theatre
Under the name of Jane Joyd , Elba Fernandez has created one of the most attractive indie music projects of the year in Spain. With her first EP “Jane Joyd” (2010) she won the Demo Project competition organized by the RNE·3 –Spanish public radio broadcast- together with FIB Festival, and she was also nominated for the Pop-eye Awards. She has played at many music festivals all over Spain, sometimes supporting artists as Basia Bulat, Greg Dulli, James Yuill or Matt Elliott.
Jane Joyd has won over the critics with her mixed style where folk references as Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut and Fleet Foxes melt with the most experimental side of PJ Harvey.
Her first album, “Shy Little Jane Presents: The Dramatic Tale of Her Animals”, has just been released. This time, her seductive voice is accompanied by orchestral arrangements creating the most captivating atmosphere. This is her first UK gig and one definitely worth catching.
The Primitives started in Coventry coming out of the independent scene that bands like the Jesus & Mary Chain, The Wedding Present, My bloody Valentine and Primal Scream came out of, this line-up found the perfect balance between the crystalline guitars of The Byrds, the agility and speed of the Ramones and the unforgettable melodies of Orange juice.
The definitive moment came with their pop classic ‘Crash’ and catapulted them to a massive audience.
They sign with the multinational company RCA and release two notable albums but neither album reaches the same levels of success as their previous album, and this ultimately leads to the band’s dissolution in 1992.
The band reunited in their hometown of Coventry at the end of 2009, to pay homage to the recently deceased Steve Dullaghan, the group’s original bassist. The success of their performance and the public’s positive response after more than 17 years away from the spotlight led them to do a UK tour in april 2010 , a few shows in Europe and the US. Their much-anticipated new album, Echoes & Rhymes, includes covers of artists like Dana Gillespie, Polly Niles, Olivia Newton-John, Adam and Eve, Sandy Posey, Laura Ulmer and Reparata and the Delrons.
