Fran Bobadilla – The interview!

How would you define yourself?
I do not know.

What can the audience expect from your collaboration with Spain NOW!?
Medium format paintings made “four hands”, in tandem with Italian artist Edoardo Casini, – a complex and fresh collaboration signed RC.
I may also exhibit some of my latest drawings with material collected during my last visit to London in 2010.

What do you think your collaboration with Spain NOW! will bring for you?
It’s the second year I work with Spain NOW! Working with Antonio Molina and his team guarantees the success of any event!!!

Describe or give us some insights about your creative process.
I work by trial & error.
I start by drawing, without worrying too much about the goal.
Passions are not born. They are there and they rebel. We must know how to listen, indulge, pamper, chastise and cultivate them.

Where have you shown internationally before? And in Spain?
Paris (France); Rome, Rovereto, Bologna and Venice (Italy); Warsaw (Poland); Lisbon (Portugal); Madrid, Valencia and Vigo (Spain); London (UK); Miami (USA)

What can you say about the current state of Spanish culture within your field? What other emergent Spanish artists can you recommend for those who enjoy your work?
Spanish painting has been reborn.
I have recently discovered a fantastic painter: Miki Leal.

Do you have affinities or share interests with any artists working in the UK?
I really like Peter Doig.

Define yourself as:

a “saying”: no news is good news
a geographical accident: a cliff
an animal/mineral/plant: Lately, I feel well underwater
a dish/food: beef ribs
a London Underground station: Earl’s Court
