2013 HIGHLIGHTS – María José Arceo / Open Studios Weekend

arceo_webThe OPEN STUDIOS WEEKEND is a chance to see dynamic  Spanish artists based in London.  Since its origins in 2009, Spain NOW!’s mission has been to promote contemporary Spanish art in London:  this new initiative is one further step to highlighting important emerging artists and to making their presence known both at national and international levels.

MARÍA JOSÉ ARCEO was born in Santiago de Compostela and she has lived in London since 1984.

She got a Fine Art Degree from Camberwell College of Art in 1992 and a Post Graduate in Fine Art Education from Goldsmiths University in 2001.

“…I suppose the main influence that city life has on my work, would be in the exploration of the many imprints left by human interaction within the fabric of the city.  A kind of ‘Urban Archaeology’ focused on ordinary processes of wear and tear. As a Spanish artist who grew up near the coast, I have been always drawn to water. Somehow it makes sense that I would end up working with the Thames, a huge time machine that exposes the very guts of the city.”
